About Me

Hello, I’m Kim Mak and I am the baker and owner of The Comforting Crust. Baking has always been more than just something I do — it’s part of who I am. For me, it’s a journey of discovery, always exploring new possibilities in the kitchen. I love dreaming up new recipes, flavors, and combinations, and I enjoy understanding the chemistry behind each one. There’s so much joy in improving the flavor, texture, and even the process itself, making each bake just a little better than the last.

I seek out the best ingredients I can find — from unique spices to what’s fresh and overflowing from my garden — and turn them into something delicious. The greatest reward is watching my loved ones enjoy what comes out of my kitchen.

Everything I make is truly a labor of love, and I want to share that love with you. My hope is that each loaf, cookie, or pie you bring home will bring you the same joy and comfort that it brings to my own table.

About My Baked Goods

Every bake begins with thoughtful ingredients. I choose each one with care—prioritizing quality, flavor, purity, and where it comes from.

I use organic flours from Central Milling in Petaluma, California. They’ve been crafting artisan flour for over 150 years, and their commitment to tradition and excellence makes a true difference in every loaf and pastry.

When I bake with ancient grains or alternative flours, I turn to Bob’s Red Mill for their variety, unique textures, and natural flavor.

For all my chocolate bakes, I choose Guittard Chocolate, a bay area company, high quality fair trade with rich, pure taste.

Seasonal ingredients from my garden and local farmers' markets often find their way into my baking. They bring freshness and a personal touch each batch.

Every recipe is made with intention and care, and I truly believe you can taste the difference. High-quality ingredients matter—and to me, they’re always worth it.
